Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Chrissy Metz will make her Broadway debut this summer in the hit musical “& Juliet” at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.
The This Is Us actor is set to begin performances as Angelique on June 18 for a limited engagement running through September 13. Metz succeeds Tony Award nominee Jeannette Bayardelle, who will play her final performance in the role on June 14.
In a statement, Metz shared, “I’m so excited to be making my Broadway debut, and to do it in a show that is this joyful feels like an absolute dream come true.”
“I think some of the hardest working, most creative people work in live theatre and well, Broadway scares me to bits, which is why I have always wanted to do it,” Metz continued. “Pray for me!”

She joins a cast led by Gianna Harris as Juliet, James Monroe Iglehart as Lance, Alison Luff as Anne, Drew Gehling as Shakespeare, Michael Iván Carrier as May, Liam Pearce as Romeo, and Nathan Levy as François.
The ensemble also includes Gabe Amato, Daniel Assetta, Reese Britts, Nicholas Cooper, Jhailyn Paige Farcon, Laurie Hernandez, Makai Hernandez, Joomin Hwang, Elsa Keefe, Alaina Ví Maderal, Daniel J. Maldonado, Mackenzie Meadows, Esosa Oviasu, Cassie Silva, TJ Tapp, Zalah Vallien, Darien Van Rensalier, and Romy Vuksan.
The musical features a book by David West Read and a score made up of pop songs written and produced by Max Martin, including “Since U Been Gone,” “Roar,” “I Want It That Way,” and “Confident.”

The production is directed by Luke Sheppard with choreography by Jennifer Weber. Bill Sherman serves as music supervisor, orchestrator, and arranger. Additional creative team members include scenic designer Soutra Gilmour, costume designer Paloma Young, lighting designer Howard Hudson, sound designer Gareth Owen, projection designer Andrzej Goulding, hair, wig, and makeup designer J. Jared Janas, and musical director Dominic Fallacaro.
Since opening on Broadway in November 2022, “& Juliet” has become one of Broadway’s top-grossing musicals. The production reimagines William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet by exploring what happens if Juliet chooses a new path instead of ending her life after Romeo’s death.
“& Juliet” received nine Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, and was the first new musical of the 2022–2023 Broadway season to announce it had recouped its investment.
Additionally, the production is also scheduled to celebrate its 1,500th Broadway performance on June 23 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.
