K-pop group Seventeen have canceled their upcoming Ode To You Tour over concerns of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. The group’s agency, Pledis Entertainment, announced over the weekend that the tour would not go forward as planned due to health concerns over the virus.
“Due to the on-going coronavirus outbreak, we have decided to cancel Seventeen’s February and March world tour in consideration of the health and safety of both artist and fans,” Pledis Entertainment shared in a statement. “As the health and safety of the artist, audience and staff is our top priority, we made this decision to prevent any potential harm. Thereby, we regret to announce that the following world tour dates for February and March will be cancelled.”
The group was slated to visit Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, Madrid, Paris, London and Berlin in the coming weeks. However, fans will now have to wait to see the group but will be issued full refunds for tickets. Seventeen recently wrapped their North American tour leg last month, which brought the 13-piece act to Chicago, Los Angeles, and Newark, among other cities.
“We deeply apologize to all fans for this unfortunate circumstance and ask for your generous understanding,” the agency concluded the message.
The deadly coronavirus has also forced fellow K-pop acts NCT Dream and Taeyon to cancel shows throughout Asia, with all artists noting the health and safety of all parties as a top priority.
As of Monday, the global death toll of the outbreak reached 910 out of more than 40,000 cases – the vast majority of which were reported in and around Wuhan, China.
