PWHL Sets New U.S. Attendance Record with Madison Square Garden Debut

The Professional Women’s Hockey League set a new U.S. attendance record for a women’s ice hockey game during its first appearance at Madison Square Garden.

A total of 18,006 fans attended the game, where the New York Sirens hosted the Seattle Torrent. The figure marks the highest attendance recorded for a women’s professional hockey game in a U.S. arena.

In a statement, the league shared, “This historic debut at The World’s Most Famous Arena marked the league’s eighth time breaking the US arena record for a women’s hockey game since the inaugural puck drop in January 2024 – and the fourth time this season alone.”

The league also noted that either New York or Seattle has been involved in each of the record-setting games this season.

The PWHL has continued to draw larger crowds when games are held in higher-capacity venues. Attendance figures have regularly reached the upper teens in arenas that exceed the size of teams’ primary home rinks.

Notably, another large crowd is expected when the Boston Fleet face the Montréal Victoire at TD Garden on April 11. The game has already been announced as a sellout and is projected to rank second on the league’s U.S. attendance list.

Earlier this season, Seattle set a then-record with 16,014 fans during its home opener at Climate Pledge Arena on November 28. That number was surpassed on February 27, when 17,335 fans attended another game, before the latest record was set in New York.

The regular season is scheduled to wrap up on April 25, with the playoffs to follow.
