Record Crowd Attends Canadian Formula 1 Grand Prix Weekend

A record crowd attended the Canadian Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend in Montreal, with organizers reporting 360,000 fans at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve.

The figure surpassed last year’s attendance total of 352,000 and marked a sell-out weekend for the event.

Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli won Sunday’s race, earning his fifth consecutive victory of the 2026 Formula 1 season. Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton finished second, while Red Bull driver Max Verstappen placed third. Reigning world champion Lando Norris did not finish the race after a suspected gearbox failure forced him to retire.

The Canadian Grand Prix remains one of Formula 1’s strongest-performing events in North America, with attendance continuing to increase as interest in the series grows across the region.

Formula 1 now moves into a busy June schedule that includes the Monaco Grand Prix from June 5 to 7, the Catalunya Grand Prix in Barcelona from June 12 to 14, and the Austrian Grand Prix from June 26 to28.

Barcelona is also preparing for changes to its role on the Formula 1 calendar. The city recently lost hosting rights for the Spanish Grand Prix to Madrid, where the race will move to the new Madring circuit.

The Madring venue will feature a combination of street and permanent track sections. Construction on the facility began in 2025, and updated renderings of the project were released earlier this year.

The Spanish Grand Prix at Madring is scheduled for September 11 to 13.
