Broadway’s ‘Beaches’ Announces Early Closing at Majestic Theatre

The Broadway musical “Beaches” will play its final performance May 24 at the Majestic Theatre, producers announced. The production had originally been scheduled to continue through Sept. 6.

The musical began previews March 27 and officially opened April 22. By the end of its run, the production will have played 38 performances and 28 previews. Lonny Price and Matt Cowart directed the production.

Producers also confirmed plans for a 2027 national tour presented by Crossroads Live. Tour dates and cities will be announced later.

Jessica Vosk, who stars as Cee Cee Bloom, reflected on originating the role on Broadway in a statement following the closing announcement.

“It has been my great joy to originate a role for the very first time on Broadway with Cee Cee Bloom, who I adore for her grit, her great humor, and her huge heart,” Vosk said. “To continue the legacy of a character first made famous by my idol Bette Midler is something I’m not sure I’ll ever fully process. It’s been an honor.”

“To our mighty ensemble, and to my leading lady Kelli Barrett: Thank you for lifting me and each other up. You’re all superstars.”

Producer Jennifer Maloney-Prezioso said the creative team was proud of the production and its response from audiences during the Broadway engagement.

“Night after night, audiences have laughed, cried, called their friends on the way out of the theatre, and connected deeply with this story of friendship and love,” Maloney-Prezioso said in a statement. “We are profoundly grateful to everyone who helped bring Beaches to life at the Majestic Theatre, and look forward to sharing this special show with audiences across America on our national tour.”

The musical is adapted from Iris Rainer Dart’s 1985 novel and the 1988 film adaptation. The story follows the lifelong friendship between performer Cee Cee Bloom and Bertie White.

The Broadway cast is led by Vosk as Cee Cee and Kelli Barrett as Bertie. Ben Jacoby stars as Michael Barron, Brent Thiessen plays John Perry, Samantha Schwartz appears as Little Cee Cee, and Zeya Grace plays Little Bertie. Vosk, Barrett, Jacoby, and Thiessen all reprise their roles from the show’s world premiere engagement at Theatre Calgary.
